A Mini Guide to Maui

Hawaii dreaming and an insider's secret spots...
Hawaii dreaming and an Insider's secret spots revealed. Part-time Maui resident - author, photographer and stylist, Alanna O'Neil gives us her mini guide to Maui - where to eat, shop, drink, spa & stay. Mahalo!

Eat: Mala Tavern: This is one of my favorite places for a lazy brunch right by the ocean on Maui's West Side. It highlights locally grown produce and tropical flavours. It is also a fantastic spot to catch the sunset with a drink by the ocean. They generally have live music and late-night events too.

Shop: Imrie: I love this shop for beachy casual staples with an East Coast meets Hawaiian style. It has everything from leather goods to bikinis from brands like Current Elliot, Frank & Eileen, and Terre Mer. They also have their own label of understated, classic beachy pieces. Their nautical stripes are a classic! The main shop on Maui's North Shore artsy surf town, Paia, has the best selections for beachy essentials.

Drink: Monkey Pod Kitchen: This is a lively and buzzing restaurant with two locations on the island and has one of the best mixology menus in Hawaii. They have tropical twists on classic favorites. I go for the No Ka ‘Oi or the MonkeyPod Mai Tai...

Spa: Ho'omana Spa: This upcountry gem is an oasis for relaxation and Hawaiian pampering. It's tucked away in lush tropical foliage and feels very secluded and private. I especially love the focus on ancient Hawaiian healing, specialty treatments, and bodywork such as the Lomi Lomi Deep Tissue Massage and 'Aina Spa Ritual. It's the perfect spot to restore and nourish your skin after a few days in salt water and sunshine.

Stay: Andaz Resort: A tropical and luxuriously modern hotel with ocean views and fantastic dining options on Maui's South West Shore. It's a wonderful getaway for a special celebration or honeymoon. It also has a Luau experience for guests who want to fully immerse themselves in the traditional Polynesian culture. I love the clean and minimalist aesthetic that feels young and fresh. It's a relaxing ambiance for an island stay.
