Cricket Fine Art in London is presenting 'Searching for Stillness', a solo exhibition

of new works by one of our favourite British artists, Jemma Powell.

'Searching for Stillness' - is a title that resonates deeply with our quest for quiet amongst the chaos. The exhibition brings together a collection of 45 paintings that reflect Jemma's travels to the Ligurian Coast where her husband, the musician Jack Savoretti is from and Marrakech, alongside breathtaking landscapes and flowers.  Her work captures the stories and spirit of places as she immerses herself in a busy street medina or calm harbour.

When I am painting, I am searching all the time. Looking for the moment where the unnoticed becomes noticed. In a world that is getting ever faster in pace, finding stillness is everything to me. Through Searching for Stillness, I want to share the beauty of the moment where stillness is found.

In this, her first solo show in London, Powell has drawn inspiration from her surrounding Cotswolds home where she often paints outside, documenting the seasons through handpicked blooms.

Powell’s paintings evoke a feeling of joyful chaos alongside a sense of calm, mirroring the artist’s own domestic life in the bustling, busy family home she shares with her husband, three children and four dogs. Yet, despite or perhaps because of this familial chaos, Powell is able to completely immerse herself in her practice, taking on an almost meditative state when painting and “finding stillness within the madness”.

Jemma Powell is more widely known as an actress with a career spanning 20 years and numerous TV and Film credits including Alice in Wonderland, Foyle's War, Devils and The Secret Garden, but it was during lockdown that Powell returned to her first love as an artist.

Based in the Cotswolds and a keen traveller, Powell is known for her painterly, observational landscapes drawn from a close contemplation of nature and her travels. She attended Bristol University and achieved a BA in Drama and a Diploma in Acting from The Oxford School of Drama. Having exhibited widely across the UK, she is now presenting her first solo exhibition of new work at Cricket Fine Art.  Powell’s work is held in numerous private collections in Europe, Australia and the US. She lives in Oxfordshire with her husband and musician Jack Savoretti, their three children and four dogs. Powell is an Ambassador for the Art for Charity Collective. www.jemmapowell.com. @powell.jemma.art
