Happy Easter!
I love Easter - not just because of the chocolate, promise! But because of the traditions entwined with nature and led by the moon - a time of rebirth and renewal, welcoming the spring equinox and thawing out the last of the winter. There is new life in nature all around us - buds appearing by the day, baby lambs stretching their frail legs in the foggy morning light, the scented air of blossom luring us outside, tiny green shoots in windowsill pots urging us to plant them in the ground, birds singing, days lingering… The excitement of summer fun and slower yet longer days stretch out ahead. The full moon is high and so are my spirits…
This is a short edition as I know you’ll be wanting to spend time with loved ones this Easter long weekend. Creating a large scale arrangement with seasonal magnolia and blossom in our (coming soon!) raffia vase for summer. This room in my home in the countryside has the height and light to take a large arrangement and it really does celebrate all that is joyful about spring. This is not a difficult arrangement, of course, but in this video, I encourage you to think about scale and restraint (when to stop adding branches is key for me) and also how to ensure your stems are conditioned to take in as much water as they can while inside to make the vase life as long as possible…
If you want to give this a try this weekend for Easter, you could hang hard boiled or blown eggs (dyed or marbled in food colouring or hand painted), perhaps hung with some mini bows or any ribbon you have at home, and with little chicks hiding in the branches too. Have fun and I hope you enjoy!
