Ulla Johnson is at the top of the sartorial game - creating and maintaining her eponymous fashion label since 1998, bringing joy throughout the seasons to a legion of fans (and to over 500 stores) around the world.
The designer honed her signature upscale bohemian style through education in women’s studies and travel to far-flung destinations with her family from a young age. Ulla’s European parents - both archaeologists who met on a dig in Yugoslavia, instilled in her a sense of curiosity, a love of travel and a keen interest in culture.
Born and raised in New York, there is a grit and determination that accompanies Ulla’s creative spirit and entrepreneurial acumen. Her rise to the top of global fashion says as much about her substance as her style.
“I have built this business around the idea and practice of empowering women and always holding how women feel in the clothes as the driving force behind every design decision”.
Raising three children while raising the bar with sustainable fashion, Johnson is very conscious of the needs of women around the world to feel their best while juggling life.
Here we chat with Ulla about the values that she holds high for her designs and her business; on creating garments responsibly with deep respect for nature and culture; and ultimately to empower the next generation of women...
